Services
The Florida Department of Health in Taylor County is responsible for conducting investigations of all reported communicable diseases that occur in Taylor County. Certain communicable diseases such as influenza require the Health Department and other designated county providers monitor the presence of influenza by testing symptomatic individuals. The results are reported to the Department of Health Epidemiology program in Tallahassee so that the incidence of influenza can be monitored statewide.
Our first response to a report of a communicable disease is to confirm the presence of the disease either by phone or face to face interviews. The Health Department has a responsibility to ensure that all infected individuals are identified, evaluated and treated if indicated, as quickly as possible in order to contain the disease and prevent further spread. Our Epidemiology staff provides education for the general public, physicians, hospitals, day care centers, nursing homes, schools, veterinarians, animal services, and other agencies in the county.
Some of the infectious diseases we investigate include...
- Sexually transmitted diseases (STD's)
- Shigella/Salmonella
- Tuberculosis (TB)
- Hepatitis
- Rabies
- Influenza
- Brucellosis
