1. Do I need to sample my well water?
Private well water sampling and testing is recommended if your well was potentially flooded at any point. Residents on public water systems, such as city water, do not need to be tested.
Top of Section2. Is there is cost associated for getting my well water tested?
In response to Hurricane Idalia, all fees for private well water sampling and testing are waived for Taylor County residents with private wells in areas that experienced flooding. Testing and sampling is free.
Top of Section3. How do I sample my well water?
Follow the instructions provided in the sampling kit. It is important that you wash your hands before you take the sample. If you have questions, please call 850-223-5100 if you have questions.
Top of Section4. How long will it take for me to get results?
It will take a couple of days to receive the results. This timeline will be based on how many samples are collected and require testing. You will receive a phone call sharing if your water is safe to drink or if confirmatory testing is required.
Top of Section5. What will happen if my water is tested and is unsafe to drink?
A DOH-Taylor employee will come to your home and collect a water sample for confirmatory testing. They will provide instructions on what you should do in the meantime (i.e., continued boiling water, drinking bottled water, etc.).
